Dementia Action Week (16 – 22 May) is a national event that raises awareness of dementia and encourages people to take action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.
The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘diagnosis’ and with diagnosis rates falling to a five-year low, those who might be living with undiagnosed dementia are encouraged to come forward for help.
The charity Alzheimer’s Society is urging those who might be living with, or close to someone who might be living with, undiagnosed dementia to:
- be able to understand and recognise potential dementia symptoms
- come to us for guidance and support
- feel empowered to take the next step
- improve the diagnosis process for both them and healthcare professionals.
What’s happening in Knowsley this Dementia Action Week?
If you’re living with, or caring for, someone affected by dementia, Alzheimer’s Society is holding two drop-in sessions in Whiston and Halewood during Dementia Action Week to showcase the support available in Knowsley.
The sessions, open to anyone affected by dementia, members of the community and local businesses/organisations are being held at:
Whiston Town Hall, Old Colliery Rd, Whiston, Prescot L35 3QX on Wednesday, 18 May – 1pm to 3pm
Fairview Park Community Centre, Sherborne Ave, Halewood L25 9RL on Friday, 20 May – 1pm – 3pm
Each drop-in session will have:
- stalls showcasing the services on offer
- information on a range of topics
- an opportunity to feedback your experiences
- Dementia Friends session for those wanting to learn more

Alzheimer’s Society has also produced a new online checklist which people can print off and take to their GP to help explain their symptoms and get the support they need.
